I'm Steve — MiniWorkoutDad!

If you don't know me, I got (and stay!) in the best shape of my life at 51½ by working out just 75 minutes a week at home. You can discover how here .

Why & How to Check Your Workout Is On Point

Doing your workout precisely minimises the risk of injury and ensures you’re getting the most out of your hard work. Record a cycle (through the 9 phases) regularly and check yourself against this guide.

How to do a form review…
  • Set your phone up to record a cycle from your workout, ideally in profile (side on)
  • Immediately before your next workout, compare your video’d cycle to this video guide
  • Pay particular attention to the extra notes on posture
  • Make a note of any concerns and focus on eradicating them in your workout!

When the going gets tough, the tough can get sloppy

Our bodies have a wonderful ability to find ‘a way’ – anyway way – to get physical stuff done. This is especially true when you’re struggling. Maybe you’ve seen folks at the gym contorting their bodies to cheat a final ‘rep’? Or, rocking violently to gain the momentum to cheat the bar up? I have many times in my gym-going days. I’ve also done it myself and wound up injured!

Bad form has a nasty habit of creeping in, as you ‘find a way’ – especially toward the end of your workout. At best it means you’re using a supporting cast of the wrong muscles (and often muscles that are doing stuff they really shouldn’t be doing!) . At worst, you’re massively increasing the risk of injury.

“Form creep” is human nature

Over time “form creep” will happen, unless you keep it in check. It’s the reason I suggest you:

  • Workout in front of your own reflection
  • Record yourself regulary

I do my workouts in front of those big glass doors, so I can check my posture is on point. I also record myself all the time, not least because I need video for content like this! These tactics have kept my workout precise over the many months I’ve stuck to it. And, have led to zero injuries for me.

As I’ve said before, a huge benefit of doing only this one workout, is that you get really good at doing it. That means you can put more intensity/ effort into it and get more out of your 25mins. That’s only true while you stay on track, so please check your form regularly!

Let’s do this..!
